After 20 years, (The modeling icon first appeared on the catwalk during the 1996 New York Fashion Week.) Gisele Bündchen has walked her last runway, in Brazil that is. Although many have confused the model’s actions with retiring altogether, long time rep for Bündchen – Anne Nelson has confirmed she is only closing the chapter for the Brazilian runway. Stating the confusion was due to the “lost in translation” aspect of the entire process. For example, Bündchen’s statements with reporters last weekend, where she stated “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop.”
Over the years, the 34 year old Brazilian model has been the face for the Colcci brand. So it came as no surprise, Bündchen’s final trip down the runway was in the Colcci Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Show held in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady even came to show his support, as he watched from the front row.
Prior to the fashion show, Gisele confirmed her Brazilian runway retirement with an Instagram picture of herself at 14 with the caption: “I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business. #firstrunway #14yearsold”
